When I first worked with Emma, I was on the Acting for Film faculty of the New York Film Academy in Los Angeles, an accredited Performing Arts College. The program was a professional actor-training program, dedicated to those actors who are on a professional training track. As well I also teach at many other venues including privately. My current and former students and coaching clients have appeared in principal roles in major motion pictures, network television, professional stage, in Europe, Canada, South America and The United States.
From the beginning Emma immediately stood out. During her time in my classes, she proved herself to be an exceptional student actor who is ever hungry to learn as much as possible about her chosen craft.
Emma’s scene work got stronger with each session and each on camera performance. She always had her scene or monologue prepared on time. Moreover she was always among the first to volunteer to present work in class. More importantly, Emma continually demonstrated a more than mere understanding of the concepts being taught and discussed. When I solicited critical comments from students about work being presented in my class, Emma’s assessments are usually correct and insightful. I believe Emma to be a disciplined and conscientious actor whose ability and talent is exceeded only by her passion for acting.
As an actor Emma is extremely easy to direct and now possesses an impressive range that is far from where she was when I first met her. In her class work she was exceptionally adept at script analysis and her analysis was always intelligent, comprehensive, and usually accurate. While she has become quite skilled in analysis she is gaining an awareness of the fact that analysis is a necessary intellectual exercise that can present itself as an obstacle that prohibits emotional action when one relies solely on analysis. She is one of the few actors that I have worked with, which has discovered the need to occasionally abandon it for simple emotional action. I have found her extremely cooperative and always willing to take risks. I am very proud of Emma.
★★★★★
Simply put, this woman is a true professional. She is ready. She is bravely tenaciously navigating the rocky shoals of a temperamental and volatile industry. I believe her to be more than worthy of any consideration casting or producers can give her. All she needs now is to get in the door to show the industry who she is. Its positive approval is all it will take for this wonderful talent to further realize her dreams.
I am seldom given to the temptation to go out on a professional limb and wax superlatives. However with Emma it is very easy. Simply put, she is one of the better actors to show up to any of my classes anywhere. Emma has fully realistic expectations about her place in this complicated industry.
Even now, years after her graduation, she has found her way back to push her personal envelope further than ever before. I would be remiss if I didn’t say that her skill set now is exponentially far beyond when we met and far beyond from when she graduated.
Should you have any questions or need a more critical evaluation of her class work please don’t hesitate to contact me.
